Climb Cerro Soray 5,446m + Salkantay - Santa Teresa - Machu Picchu Trek 6D/5N (Medium)



Itinerary:

DAY 1 : Cusco - Soray Pampa (3,888m)
We leave Cusco in the morning in an express van and arrive to Mollepata after about 2 hours. Here we will stop, eat breakfast and buy any last minute necessities. Then we will continue on for another hour or so to Soray Pampa at the base of the high mountains. Here we will acclimatize and stay the night in cabins (Yes, you can take a hot shower!).

DAY 2: Soray Pampa - Base Camp (4,813m)
After breakfast we port our gear up to Base Camp. This should take about 4 hours and cover a distance of around 4km as we gain over 900m in altitude. We will have time to relax and acclimatize more in the afternoon.

DAY 3: Base Camp - Summit Cerro Soray(5,446m=17,863ft) - Soray Pampa
We awake at 3am, make a quick breakfast and leave the tent at 4am. The climb should take about 4 hours. The descent to Base Camp will be about 2 hours. We will pack up our camp and go down to Soray Pampa arriving between noon and 1pm. We will rest for the day and set off toward Machu Picchu the next morning.

DAY 4: Soray Pampa - Abra Salkantay (4,650m) - Challhuay (3,850m)

After breakfast we will trek to the pass of Abra Salkantay located at an elevation of 4,650m = 15,252ft. From here we can appreciate the beautiful views that the Cordillera Vilcabamba has to offer. We will then descend the other side of the pass to Huayracmachay, where we will have lunch. In the afternoon we will start descending into the high amazon jungle where we can observe the environment change and a large quantity of plants and animals of this zone. In the evening we will arrive to Challhuay where we will stay for the night in cabins.

DAY 5: Challway - Collpapampa - La Playa (2,046m/6,710ft) - Aguas Calientes (1,500m/4,920ft)
In the morning we will trek to the town of Playa. Along the way we can observe the variety of flora and fauna as the climate becomes more tropical. In Playa we will have lunch and then go by taxi directly to Hydroelectric. From there we will take the train for 45 min to Aguas Calientes and check in to our hotel.

DAY 6: Machu Picchu - Return to Cusco
We awake at the hour of your choosing and go by bus to Machu Picchu. In the afternoon or night we will go by train to Ollantaytambo and then by collective transport to Cusco.

- Transportation (Cusco to Soray Pampa, Playa to Hydro, Train-Hydro to Aguas Calientes, roundtrip bus to M.P. and Aguas Calientes to Cusco)
- All climbing/camping equipment
- 1 High Mountain Guide per 3 clients
- Arriero and horse service (will carry all expedition and personal gear)
- Food from Lunch Day 1 until Lunch Day 5. (Dinner Day 5 and food Day 6 Not Included)
- Hotel in Aguas Calientes
- Entrance and Official Tourist Guide in Machu Picchu

Although no mountaineering experience is required, you should be in good physical condition and acclimatized (3 days in Cusco). You must have a good backpack, along with clothing for rain, cold and hot climates. A good pair of hiking boots (preferably waterproof) is required and will be fit with our adjustable crampons.
